About Us

WELCOME

Merrimack Valley Skating Club, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in September 2005 at The Henry Graf Jr. Memorial Rink in Newburyport, MA.  We’re dedicated to promoting skating in the Merrimack Valley area.  Our Learn To Skate program for both figure skaters and future hockey skaters is coached by experienced U.S.F.S. professionals.  We train Tots to Adults (age 3 and up).  Our figure skating program promotes the art and athleticism of figure skating for all ages and abilities from recreational skaters to competitive skaters.  Merrimack Valley Skating Club is a U.S. Figure Skating affiliated club, which hosts sanctioned exhibitions, shows, and test sessions for its members.  We pride ourselves on our friendly, small club atmosphere where we all know and support our local skaters.

Learn to Skate U.S.A. program at MVSC offers Snow Plow Sam levels for our very youngest skaters (age 3 and up), all the way through Freeskate 6, all taught by a nurturing staff of dedicated, highly-trained professionals.  We coach our future hockey skaters to Basic 5, at which point they not only feel competent with outside and inside edges, but where they are on their blade (ball of the foot, middle of the blade, back of the blade, etc.). By Basic 5, these skaters will be able to do solid forward and backward crossovers, stops, edges, rotational skills (forward to back) to have a strong foundation for any local hockey program. Our future figure skaters will get the same strong, quality instruction with very specific detailed information on edges, placement of the blade, body alignment as they progress through the levels learning how to jump and spin! We can’t wait to help your little skater find his/her life-long love of skating just as we have!
